Alys is Assistant Orchestra Manager for the BBC Symphony Orchestra and is currently on secondment as Event Co-ordinator for the BBC Proms & Radio 3.
The School of Music was recommended to me by my teachers as offering a good BA Hons course with the option to study languages for part credit.
A highlight from my time here was performing with the Cardiff University Symphony Orchestra – I was Principal Clarinet in my final year. And working on my final-year dissertation on Debussy with Dr Caroline Rae.
I would recommend the School as a friendly place to study with excellent, knowledgeable professors and lecturers.
My first job after graduating was at St David’s Hall, Cardiff as a Marketing Assistant and then subsequently as a Planning Assistant in the Programming office. From there I went to work for the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and then to London to work for the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
I then went to work for the BBC Proms on a secondment from the Orchestra for 6 months and then returned and was soon after promoted to Assistant Orchestra Manager, which is my current position. At present I am again on secondment to the Proms & Radio 3 as an Event Co-ordinator.
