Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK)

The HSK is an international standardised examination that assesses non-native Chinese speakers’ abilities in using Mandarin Chinese language in their daily, academic and professional lives.

Cardiff Confucius Institute within the School of Modern Languages is an approved test centre for the HSK.

Exam fees

The HSK consists of six levels, from HSK 1 (beginner) to HSK 6 (advanced). If you are unsure which level is most appropriate for you, please contact your Chinese language tutor or the Cardiff Confucius Institute for information and advice. Exam fees apply to both internal and external candidates.

Timetable

The HSK will run on the following dates:

  • 2 December 2017 (registration deadline: 30 October 2017)
  • 22 April 2018 (registration deadline: 21 March 2018)
  • 10 Jun 2018 (registration deadline: 9 May 2018)
  • 14 July 2018 (registration deadline: 13 June 2018)
  • 2 December 2018 (registration deadline: 31 October 2017)

Practice papers

Practice papers for HSK levels 1 to 6 are available from the Hanban website. For general information about the HSK please visit the Chinese Testing website, or the Hanban website.

Registration

To register for the exam please complete and return the registration form. Please note that the deadline for registration is at least one month before the test date.
