Year Three
This part of the course builds on the groundwork of the first two years, and the knowledge gained is put to practical use in project work. Some modules from each of the three subject areas must be chosen. You must take at least six modules from within Statistics and Operational Research.
Normally students will study six Autumn Semester Modules from:
- MA0321 - Coding Theory
- MA0322 - Knots
- MA0345 - Introduction to Wavelets and Data Compression
- MA0358 - Mathematical Programming
- MA0368 - Regression Analysis
- MA0369 - Stochastic Models for Insurance
- MA0381 - Survey Sampling
- MA0391 - Full Project [Thin Double Module]
- MA0392 - Half Project [Single Module]
- MA3002 - Integral Equations
- MA3300 - Differential Geometry
- MA3501 - Elements of Mathematical Statistics
and six more in the Spring Semster from:
- MA0355 - Medical Statistics
- MA0360 - Queuing Theory & Stock Contro
- MA0363 - Experimental Design
- MA0367 - Time Series Analysis and Forecasting
- MA0370 - Elements of Financial Mathematics
- MA0379 - Numerical Solution of Elliptic Differential Equations
- MA0391 - Full Project [Thin Double Module continued]
- MA0392 - Half Project [Single Module] if not taken in Autumn semester
- MA3000 - Complex Function Theory
- MA3001 - Calculus of Variations
- MA3008 - Combinatorics
- MA3500 - Discrete Optimisation
- MA3700 - Mathematical Methods for Data Mining
Thin double modules refer to those taken across the Autumn and Spring semesters.
