About the Centre
Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan Welsh for Adults Centre has over 25 years experience of teaching Welsh to adults.
Located at Cardiff University’s School of Welsh, the Centre attracts over 2,000 enrolments each year and has a team of some 70 staff.

Welsh courses are held in numerous locations in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, including community halls, leisure centres, schools, colleges and University Buildings.
The Welsh for Adults Centre works in partnership with 3 organisations - Cardiff County Council, Cardiff and Vale College and the Vale of Glamorgan County Council to ensure the learners have plenty of choice.
Quality and value for money are important. Estyn carried out 2 inspections of the region’s provision of Welsh for Adults in 2007. A Grade 2 was achieved, which was a commendable achievement.
The Welsh for Adults Centre carries out research into language acquisition and always strives to be research led and evidence based. This ensures quality and effectiveness.
Mission
To pursue research-led teaching and learning in Welsh as a second language which is of National distinction and has impact and ensures that the ‘learner voice’ is at its heart.
Accessibility
We aim to make our courses as accessible as possible for all students, both at the Centre and in other locations within Cardiff and the Vale, whether in terms of access to buildings or aids to learning such as Braille, large print, class work on coloured paper etc. We also support our tutors in developing inclusive teaching strategies.
