About Learning and Teaching Support online

Overview

The Learning and Teaching Support pages provide information and guidance to support the enhancement of the learning experience of Cardiff students. The pages collate:

  • The Strategic Framework for Learning, Teaching and Assessment;
  • The ongoing programme of events relating to learning and teaching;
  • A comprehensive archive of past events which contains a large repository of slides, sample materials and data across the spectrum of learning and teaching;
  • Funding opportunities for the enhancement of learning and teaching at Cardiff;
  • Details of present and past learning and teaching projects and their outcomes;
  • Case studies and ‘snippet’ examples of interesting practice gathered from across Cardiff
  • Additional resources and information relating to key current priorities in the implementation of the Learning and Teaching Strategy.
  • The archive of the bi-monthly Cardiff Learning and Teaching Bulletin.
Institutional links and evidence base

Much of the material presented here issues from academic staff across the breadth of Cardiff’s disciplines who are engaged in innovative learning and teaching practice or have developed interesting and transferable responses to key issues. As a collaborative undertaking, Learning and Teaching Support also works closely with other Cardiff directorates and external agencies such as the Higher Education Academy.

The relationship between Learning and Teaching Support and the quality assurance mechanisms administered by Registry is pivotal and the resources reproduced here should be seen in partnership with the relevant Registry pages, in particular the Academic Quality Systems. The two areas of activity are mutually supportive in many ways, for example:

  • the identification of noteworthy practice in learning and teaching through the operation of institutional and external quality assurance processes;
  • the setting of key themes for enhancement activity;
  • the interface between learning and teaching issues and the formulation and operation of policy (for example, the Unfair Practice Procedure).

Links between the Learning and Teaching Support pages and Registry are therefore provided where appropriate.

A note on categorisation

To help navigation, some resources have been arranged into thematic categories. These categories have been arrived at with reference to:

  • the priorities of the strategic framework for learning, teaching and assessment;
  • the areas of focus defined by internal and external review processes;
  • the principal organising themes established in the wider discourse of learning and teaching as set out in the current literature, external policy drivers and national bodies such as the Higher Education Academy.

The intention throughout has been to allow users to quickly find supporting resources for a particular area of interest.
