About me

I come from Penarth and came to Cardiff University last year. So far, I am loving the university life, and all the opportunities available to students. Teaching has always been something that has appealed to me, so when I heard about the Student Tutor Project, I was eager to get involved.

Where I tutor

I am currently placed in Cardiff and the Vale College in Trowbridge. Being a college, the students are aged from 16, and so mostly understand the importance of core subjects. I tutor in Maths and have been placed with a boy who has difficulties in the subject. He is eager to enhance his knowledge, and I am eager to help.

My favourite memory from the Student Tutor Project

When a pupil doesn’t understand something, it can be difficult to explain it to them in a different way to make it easier for them to grasp. However, when they eventually do understand whatever concept you are trying to explain, you get a great feeling of satisfaction.

What I’ve gained from the project

I think the project is a great idea, and it helps both the pupils and the students. I think it helps the Student Tutors to increase confidence, and it is a great stepping stone on the way to teaching, giving an initial idea as to whether it is for you or not.
