About me

Having been studying in Cardiff for nearly 3 years, I have loved every moment.  I’ve been playing violin since school, and am involved with many orchestras here and at home in Suffolk.  I’m enjoying learning for my degree, but also love meeting new people and the social side of being at university.

Where I tutor

Cardiff Vale College offers education to a wide range of students.  There are GCSE and A Level maths classes, with a relaxed but hard-working atmosphere.  There are different buildings and campuses for the college, with some very close to Cardiff University.  The atmosphere in the college is slightly more mature than in secondary schools, and a very pleasant place to work.

My favourite memory from the Student Tutor Project

It would be difficult to pinpoint just one favourite memory from the project: but the best part of the project is helping a student to understand something they previously thought was impossible.  Sometimes it can be a struggle to find the right words for an explanation to a student, but perseverance always results in a rewarding outcome, for tutor and student.

What I’ve gained from the project

I would certainly recommend the project to anyone considering teaching in the future.  Working in the classroom as a tutor gives a different perspective than from a student, and it is great experience to have before going into teaching.  Not only is it an advantage to have in terms of PGCE applications, but it is also such a rewarding job to do, whilst being able to see what does and doesn’t work in the classroom.
