This course builds on the entrepreneurial and business start-up skills encountered in Music and Media Business and Social Enterprise Skills I. You will get the opportunity to transfer these skills into producing a professionally word processed document that can be presented to interested parties such as business mentors, community organisations, funding bodies and banks. In addition, you will present your business plan to a ‘Dragons Den’ style panel. You will receive support and training in the skills required to do this, thus developing your oral presentation skills and further enhancing your CV. By taking both Music and Media Business and Social Enterprise Skills I and II you will leave with a complete and professionally presented business plan which you can use for the future, and the skills and confidence to help embark on a prosperous career in music and media business.

Who is this course for?

Anyone with an interest in music media business and social enterprise skills. This course draws on the entrepreneurial and business start-up skills delivered in Music and Media Business and Social Enterprise Skills I, and is designed to offer students the opportunity to put these skills into practice by creating a professional written business plan and presenting this to a panel. Course structure: Session 1: Course introduction Mission statement and Business objectives Management team The product or process Session 2: The market and the marketing strategy Session 3: The market and marketing strategy advanced Session 4: Operations, risk factors and Swot Analysis Session 5: Financial forecasts Session 6: Financial forecasts advanced Session 7: Preparation for oral presentation Session 8: Oral presentations Session 9: Oral presentations continued

Learning and Teaching

Learning and teaching are undertaken by means of workshops and small group work. The course will consist of: 1) Mentoring, guidance and support in the word processing of the business plan. 2) Preparation of students for a 10-minute oral presentation of the business plan. To award credits we need to have evidence of the knowledge and skills you have gained or improved. Some of this has to be in a form that can be shown to external examiners so that we can be absolutely sure that standards are met across all courses and subjects.


There will be no formal examinations but there will be two main pieces of assessment: • A word processed business plan demonstrating further working, planning and ideas development. • Formal oral presentation of the business plan to a panel. Your work will be assessed by your tutor, who will offer you written feedback which we hope you will find constructive. The most important element of assessment is that it should enhance your learning. Our methods are flexible and are designed to increase your confidence and skills.
