DipTrans - Examinations

Cardiff University is a registered examination centre for the Diploma in Translation. You can sit the papers in our fully equiped computer suite.
The next exam will take place in January 2011 and the Centre fee will be announced. (Please note that the Centre fee is in addition to the examination fee required by the Chartered Institute of Linguists). Enrolment for the examinations must be done via the Chartered Institute of Linguists.
If you are interested in sitting the exam in Cardiff you need to:
- Contact Sian Austin to confirm details before applying to the Institute
- Register with the Institute by the end of August 2010.
- Pay the Centre fee by December 2010 (to be announced)
The Centre runs a number of translation courses, including an online French to English course and Spanish to English, to help students prepare for the examinations.
Registration
Registration for examinations with the Insitute of Linguists takes place between 1 May and 31 August each year. The examinations are held in January.

Examination outline
Paper 1 3 hours |
General translation (with optional annotations). (Approx. 600 words). Annotations are optional and candidates with good translations will be given a pass mark, even without any annotations. However, for those candidates who wish to gain higher marks, the presence of annotations will make the difference. |
