What is CPD?

Who we are

As part of Cardiff University’s overall commitment to working with business, Cardiff Centre for Lifelong Learning takes the lead on education and training matters.

Based within the Centre, the Professional Development Team runs Open for Business, an established, annual portfolio of professional development courses, as well as providing bespoke training specifically tailored to an organisation’s individual needs.

The Team offer a gateway to the wide range of expertise available within Cardiff University, working with academic staff to facilitate the dissemination of the University’s research and knowledge to the business community.

What we do

The principle aim of the PDT is to grow and develop Cardiff University’s contribution to continuing professional development (CPD) and employer engagement, increasing awareness of the range of CPD opportunities that the University can provide.

We currently engage with SMEs, large businesses and institutions, public and voluntary sector organisations, and internal academic schools, to develop new and bespoke courses to meet the specific needs of organisations and support the core excellence of Cardiff University.

As well as running the Open for Business programme of short courses, the Team works to support the workforce development activities of the University’s Schools and Divisions, facilitating the development or expansion of CPD activities.

The PDT also convene the Cardiff University CPD Network (launched in June 2009). It is an informal network of colleagues who are interested in CPD activities, and aims to improve Cardiff University’s capacity and ability to deliver appropriate professional development.
