Centre for Community Journalism – Social Media

Building on a unique fusion of top-rated research and practice teaching, the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies is establishing a Centre for Community Journalism.

The Centre is dedicated to supporting the development of a vibrant and sustainable network of hyper local and community news in Wales, one that creates jobs for professional journalists in collaboration with communities. It will also be a centre for research and learning about current trends and models of world-wide significance at a time when traditional models are changing fundamentally.

We’re using our unique expertise in the innovative and effective use of social and digital media to gather brilliant content and build audience. These courses are taught by leading practitioners in the field in an accessible and hands on way.

Managing your Social Media

This one day course explores how to effectively manage social media. This includes, developing a strategy, understanding how to moderate and measure, how to deal with crisis and how to put together suitable guidelines for others to use.

Masterclass: Facebook

This 2 hour masterclass will teach the basics of using facebook. This will include creating a page, engaging content, growing your contacts, and moderating your facebook page.

Masterclass: LinkedIn

This 2 hour masterclass will cover all you need to know to get started on LinkedIn.

Masterclass: Twitter

This 2 hour masterclass will cover all you need to know to start using Twitter. The course will cover the basics of setting up a profile as well as using more advanced functions such as searches for conversations and tools to measure your social media activity.

Social Media and Online Tools

Using both Google and social media tools to their full potential will help you to gain market insights, gather content, keep up to date with competitor and stakeholder news and find the people you want to talk to.
