What is BS 11000?
BS 11000 is a structured framework for supporting effective collaborative working. The standard has been developed over a twenty year period by Institute for Collaborative Working (ICW) and is framed around CRAFT: Collaborative Relationship Assessment Fulfilment Transformation. BS 11000 supports the effective management of a collaborative partnership utilising a relationship management plan (RMP). BS 11000 operates from two platforms: at the business level in establishing the appropriate processes which need to be put in place, and at an individual level in understanding softer issues such as trust and cooperation.
Collaboration in the supply chain requires a partnership relationship where two or more committed organisations agree on mutual objectives and benefits from joint performance for enhancing value creation. Collaborative relationships are project managed with definite entry and exit points; these need to be pre-agreed by both parties. For successful collaboration, the relationship must be effectively managed in ensuring successful outcomes for both parties.
Why is BS 11000 relevant for SMEs?
British Standards are relevant for companies of all sizes. Larger organisations in the rail, nuclear, public and services sectors have adopted BS 11000. Increasingly, suppliers (large and small) of these sectors are expected to adopt and remain committed to the principles of BS 11000.
