Celebrating the start of the new term

Lifelong Learning

16/09/2010

The open days on Saturday 11 and Tuesday 14 September 2010 were a great success and marked the beginning of the new term. There was a sense of anticipation and a buzz in the air as people, keen to embark on learning and acquiring new skills, enquired and enrolled on this term’s courses.

Visitors received a warm welcome and a hot drink, and were keen to chat with lecturers and tutors who could answer their queries and tell them more about the courses.

And if they still weren’t sure whether to take the plunge, visitors could ‘have a quick dip’ with short taster sessions to see if the course was for them. There was Chinese calligraphy, Taiji and Chinese well-being, and Mandarin Chinese. Computer Studies options included Java 1, Shell and Perl Programming1. It was just a flavour of the courses the Centre for Lifelong Learning can offer students.

Open Day

For the first time at the open days there was a Creative Writing exhibition, where visitors could browse students’ work and see photos of them ‘out and about’ seeking inspiration for their compositions. They could also listen to a recording of a poetry reading where students ‘took to the stage’ at the National Museum for Wales, a climatic ending to last term’s ‘Creative Writing at the Museum’ course.

The new term has started, so let’s get stuck in!
