Don't stop!
Lifelong Learning
24/08/2010
When does the demand for education stop? Not after school or university, throughout your career or retirement. Students at Cardiff Centre for Lifelong Learning prove it.
At the Cardiff Centre for Lifelong Learning, students will tell you that learning is an essential ingredient to enriching your life, no matter what age you are. Learning is not just confined to childhood school education or employer training and development. Learning can help you achieve your dreams, alter your life path or simply give you a source of pleasure and entertainment. Here are just a few student stories.
Andrew Beacon has practically applied the skills he gained from the Web Design and Publishing course to create his own business website.
“The Web Design and Publishing course has provided a good starting point to allow me to design and build my own website to advertise and promote my photography business. After providing the background to web design the course moves at a good pace, so by the end of the first class you will have written your first web page. Over the following weeks I gained enough knowledge to enable me to start designing my own professional looking website. Elaine Brennan, the course tutor, makes learning a pleasure with her friendly, enthusiastic and approachable style. The course was very enjoyable and I would recommend it to anybody wishing to start learning about the big world of web design. Life is far too short, if you are looking to change your career or just have an interest in a subject, just go for it – it could just change your life..!”
John Evans
David John Evans began learning Croatian at the Centre to pursue his interest in Balkan history, politics and culture.
“Learning a new language is, exciting, challenging, frustrating, and also rewarding. It opens a door on a new world and challenges us to think about the world from new angles and with a new perspective. It is also a journey of self-discovery, always illuminating.”
“I've thoroughly enjoyed the course and the tuition that Danijela Špirić-Beard has given which has been both patient and rigorous. I’ve gained new intellectual horizons, a glimpse into different patterns of thought, the opening of a door onto a new world.
The course has also given structure and discipline to my life at a crucial period and has boosted my self confidence and energy at a time of the year when it's most needed.”
Lyn Richards found that studying Women into Management opened up doors that she previously thought were closed to her since she reached retirement.
“The education does your mind so much good. I’m in my sixties and I’m finding there’s so much more out there. If I had not completed the course I would not be actively involved in a variety of public ventures at the moment.”
“One of the most interesting and important things about the course was meeting the other women. Women in their twenties to their sixties were taking part and was all the more enjoyable because these women were from different backgrounds and cultures.”
“The Women into Management course encourages a feeling of self-worth and achievement. I feel it has developed my potential. It has been so enjoyable and has covered varied and interesting topics. There is something for everyone, regardless of age or culture. Overall I have gained academic achievement, fulfilment, inspiration, motivation and social involvement. I would like to continue my studies!”
