The libraries at Cardiff University provide both library and computing facilities.
Getting access to reference material
All Lifelong Learning students may use any of the University’s libraries for reference purposes on a day basis. You will have access to books, newspapers, magazines, journals, audio and video cassettes and collections held on microfilm and microfiche.
Conveniently, the Senghennydd library is situated in the same building as the Centre for Lifelong Learning. It houses an impressive collection of books, newspapers in English, French, German and Spanish, language videos and audiocassettes and a reference section. Self-service photocopying is also available.
Borrowing items from the libraries
If you are on an accredited course you are entitled to free membership of the University Libraries. This entitles you to borrow from the libraries within Cardiff University. If you qualify for membership, you will need to obtain an Identification Card to gain borrowing rights. Full details of how to go about this will be sent to you with your course receipt..
Finding where material is located
The University runs an on-line library catalogue to locate and reserve books. A list of frequently asked questions will tell you how to get the most out of the catalogue facility. The Information Services Division also runs information skills workshops which are based at the libraries.
If you want to use a computer
If you are eligible for a computer account and have received details about your username and password, then you are free to use the computers which are available in the libraries. (The computer rooms in Science and Trevithick libraries are open 24 hours 7 days a week.) Within the building that houses the Centre for Lifelong Learning there are computers in the Senghennydd library and also a small number in the Cyber Cafe.
Group Study Rooms at Senghennydd Library
Senghennydd Library has three study rooms on the first floor of the library. These rooms can be booked for two or more people for up to hours at a time. Each room features a PC and a whiteboard, and two of the rooms have Plasma Screens. A booking sheet is available at the Senghennydd Library enquiry desk.
