This course introduces you to major aspects of the English legal system including its sources practices and procedures.

You will gain a thorough understanding of judicial precedent, statutory interpretation, the jury system, tribunals, law centres and legal aid.

This course assumes no prior knowledge and covers aspects of the English legal system.

This course also contributes to the pathway to a degree in politics and international relations.

Learning and teaching

To provide a knowledge and understanding of the English legal system, its sources, practices and procedures, and personnel.

To discuss the impact of European law and human rights legislation on English law and the English legal system. To consider and be aware of recent and proposed reforms to English law and the English legal system.

Coursework and assessment

To award credits we need to have evidence of the knowledge and skills you have gained or improved.

A piece of written work around 1500 words and short class test. Our assessments are flexible to suit the course and the student. The most important element of assessment is that it should enhance your learning. Our methods are designed to increase your confidence and we try very hard to devise ways of assessing you that are enjoyable and suitable for adults with busy lives.
