This course is a new opportunity to learn about various aspects of the regional culture of Piemonte, the second largest region in Italy after Sicily, and one of the most industrialised ones, famous for FIAT and its prestigious wines, and the Slow Food Movement. Piedmont was an initial springboard for Italy’s unification in 1859–1861and was associated with the House of Savoy who became Kings of Italy, withTurin briefly becoming the capital of Italy.The journey across Piemonte will explore its history, art, economy and many lifestyles which make this region of the most exciting driving forces of contemporary Italy. Students will have many opportunities to learn and engage in conversations in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, with plenty of room for practising and developing the competence of the Italian language. Lessons will benefit from a large use of audio-visual material to stimulate the students’ interest and class debate.
Who is this course for?
This course is for advanced students of Italian who have completed all stages at Learn and would like to expand their knowledge about various aspects of the language and the culture of Italy. It is also open to students who generally have a good command of Italian and an interest in the regions of Italy.
Learning and Teaching
This course will be taught in Italian and students will consolidate their linguistic skills while learning about Lombardy region. For this course, a selection of original audio, visual material and handouts will be used. Students will engage in discussions and task activities performed in class. The task activities will aim to practice and consolidate aspects of the Italian grammar and syntax with emphasis on the aural and oral skills.
Coursework and Assessment
To award credits we need to have evidence of the knowledge and skills you have gained or improved. Some of this has to be in a form that can be shown to external examiners so that we can be absolutely sure that standards are met across all courses and subjects.
You will not have formal examinations but you may be asked to write assignments, keep a course journal or put together a portfolio. Our assessments are flexible to suit the course and the student.
The most important element of assessment is that it should enhance your learning. Our methods are designed to increase your confidence and we try very hard to devise ways of assessing you that are enjoyable and suitable for adults with busy lives.
