DipTrans – Examinations

Cardiff University is an Examination Centre for the Chartered Institute of Linguists Diploma in Translation.
You can sit the units in our fully equipped computer suite.
The next exam will take place in January 2014 and the Centre fee will be £50 per unit. (Please note that the Centre fee is in addition to the examination fee required by the Chartered Institute of Linguists and is non-refundable). Enrolment for the examinations must be done via the Chartered Institute of Linguists.
Registration
Registration for the examinations must be done via the Chartered Institute of Linguists (between 1st May and end of August).
If you are interested in sitting your examination in Cardiff you need to:
- Contact Siân Austin to confirm details before applying to the Chartered Institute of Linguists
- Register with the Chartered Institute of Linguists
- Pay the Centre fee by December
The Centre runs a number of translation courses, including an online French to English course and Spanish to English, to help students prepare for the examinations.

Examination outline
| Unit 01 [3 hours] |
A text of about 600 words of a demanding but non-specialised nature will be set. Candidates will be required to translate the text to a professional standard of accuracy in their target language. |
