COURSE DESCRIPTION

To provide a basic understanding of interpreting pre-existing accounts and their limitations. To understand how businesses are financed. The financial world is in a state of turmoil both locally and globally. Does financial jargon leave you confused? How do bulls, stags and bears come within the arena of `black holes’? If you would you like to make some sense of the chaos then this is the course for you.

Who is this course for?

The course is open to all with an interest in the world of finance.

Learning and Teaching

The course includes: types of business organisation and the business environment; business finance: share capital; loan capital and other sources; summary of main accounting documents: profit and loss/balance sheets and cash flow statements; analysing accounts: ratio analysis I & II; the limitations of published accounts; social accounting; accounting scandals; break even analysis; capital investment appraisal.

The course will be taught weekly and there will be 20 contact hours.

Coursework and Assessment

To award credits we need to have evidence of the knowledge and skills you have gained or improved.

Assessment for this course is: one piece of written work around 2000 words

Our assessments are flexible to suit the course and the student. The most important element of assessment is that it should enhance your learning.
