Why Study Exploring the Past?

There are lots of good reasons to study the Exploring the Past pathway. Here are ten of the best:

1. Completion of the pathway guarantees you an interview for a degree in History, Archaeology, Ancient History or Religion at Cardiff University’s School of History, Archaeology and Religion
2. It is designed to support and fit around adult learners with busy lives, with modules taught at evenings and weekends. In addition, you can take between one and three years to complete the pathway, taking modules as and when they fit around your other commitments.
3. You don’t need to sign up or pay for the whole pathway at once. You can just do one course at a time and see how things go without making a big commitment. Just dip your toe in by signing up for a course and take it from there.
4. All the modules are research-led, which means that they are designed and taught by academics who are conducting cutting edge research in the areas that they teach.
5. The pathway has a stimulating multi-disciplinary structure, which means that you can study modules in History, Archaeology, Ancient History and Religion before deciding which degree is right for you.
6. As well as giving you fascinating insights into specific periods and themes, each module is designed to develop to equip you for study in Higher Education. The Group 1 courses have a particular emphasis on the academic skills that you need to succeed.
7. You don’t need any prior qualifications or recent experience of education. All you need is an interest in the past and the enthusiasm to take that further.
8. If you are accepted onto a degree you will be eligible for ‘advanced standing’ of 60 credits – in other words you’ll already have completed half the credits required for Year 1 of your degree.
9. The pathway has its own coordinator who is there to offer advice and guidance on all aspects of your studies and support you throughout your journey onto a degree.
