You will explore the importance of both leadership and management in the professional world.

You will examine leadership and management theories alongside case studies exploring real-life challenges facing today's professional leaders. You will explore your own management and leadership styles and consider your responses to different management situations. This very interactive course is popular - please pre-enrol.

This course is for any student that has had some experience of leadership or management in the workplace and who has aspirations to engage with leadership and management in a practical manner in the future.

Learning and teaching

The course will provide a variety of teaching and learning tools including case studies, leadership and management self perception inventories, lectures and seminars to provide a mixture of learning opportunities for each participant.

Coursework and assessment

To award credits we need to have evidence of the knowledge and skills you have gained or improved. Some of this has to be in a form that can be shown to external examiners so that we can be absolutely sure that standards are met across all courses and subjects.

Students will provide a written response to two leadership situations. This will take the form of a comparative description which will draw on leadership and management theories and will be no longer than 2000 words.

The most important element of assessment is that it should enhance your learning. Our methods are designed to increase your confidence and we try very hard to devise ways of assessing you that are enjoyable and suitable for adults with busy lives.

Reading suggestions

Any core texts on general contemporary management and leadership. A thorough reading list will be provided at the start of the course.
