Course Description
Aims:
To provide a more detailed/advanced understanding of financial management techniques.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course students will have an understanding of:
- financial analysis
- budgets
- budgetary control
- business plans
- break-even point
- capital investment appraisal
- some other management accounting techniques

The course is open to all, no prior qualifications are necessary.
Learning and Teaching
Lecture programme:
- Introduction: themes and topics
- Financial analysis/measurement and appreciation of results
- Financial analysis/measurement and appreciation of results
- Budgets and budgetary control
- Cost-volume-profit analysis (break-even point)
- Consolidated accounts
- Product profitability, capital investment appraisal and discounted cash flow
- The annual report and accounts
- Business plans
- Recapitulation and conclusion
Coursework and Assessment.
Assessment for this course consists of three written exercises on:
- Financial analysis
- Budgets and budgetary control
- Various, including product profitability and discounted cash flow.
