On 10 February 2014 Cardiff and Lampeter Confucius Institutes hosted the Wales China Schools forum at Christ College in Brecon. The Forum was preceded by a training day for all Chinese speaking tutors and classroom assistants from Hanban, the British Council and local tutors.
27 Chinese tutors took part in the training which was provided by Eluned Davies-Scott from Cathays High School in Cardiff, and Lucy Huws from Ysgol Penglais in Aberystwyth, both of which are Confucius Classrooms.
Fanzhi Yang, one of the tutors from Cardiff Confucius Institute said, ‘We really value being able to come together as a group and share our experiences. Eluned and Lucy are very experienced and are full of good ideas which help us to plan practical lessons for pupils.’
Lucy and Eluned focussed on classroom management techniques, creating effective lessons, meeting ESTYN criteria and methods for teaching Mandarin across the curriculum.

The Wales China Schools forum was pleased to be able to welcome Macmillan China, a well established educational publishing group who now provide training for teachers of Mandarin, and have delivered workshops in collaboration with Confucius Institutes in Manchester, Warwick and Leeds. At our forum, Dede Wilson, the trainer delivered three sessions which covered speaking and listening activities, teaching methodologies and ideas for engaging Chinese learners in the classroom
