Children & News International Network

The group was first established shortly after a workshop held in Munich, Germany in June 2004 with a select group over a three day period to share research findings on children, news and the war in Iraq in a wide number of countries (UK, USA, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, UK, South Africa, Israel).

The findings from this workshop were fed through to children’s media practitioners, include a number of children’s news producers, as a series of suggestions with regard to the ways in which they present traumatic news to child audiences. In November 2005, several members of the group organised a session on children, news and terrorism at the first European Communication Conference held in Amsterdam. Since that time, members of the group have been working to put together funding bids to sustain the network and provide the foundation for future joint research bids.
