Grant Holder: Dr Maire Messenger-Davies & Nick Mosdell
Funded by: Broadcasting Standards Commission
The goal of this research was to examine the use of real children (as distinct from child performers and models) in non-fiction television programmes and to evaluate how such images of children are perceived by children and parents in the television audience. The research pursues concerns about consent, privacy and exploitation in reality terlevision Consenting Adults? published in May 2000 bythe Stirling Media Research Institute. As its title implies, Consenting Adults? did not consider children. This study does.
