BA gears up for an exciting year
Wednesday, August 22, 2012
After an exceptional year in 2011/12 where the school’s undergraduate programme saw a record number of students achieving First Class honours, 28 in total, students arriving this September can expect to join a department looking forward to the future.
Undergraduate director Dr John Jewell commented, "Cardiff’s Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies degree is well known for its academic rigour, and we certainly didn’t drop our standards last year, but the volume of first class work was exceptional.
BA Away Day at Atlantic College - Vale of Glamorgan
"All the students engaged with their modules in a proactive and dynamic way. It’s given the School a great buzz."
This year’s graduates visited Atlantic College in the Vale of Glamorgan earlier in the year as part of the degree’s career development events. Positive feedback from the event was so unanimous that second year students can now also look forward to their own custom visit. The day allows students to meet industry professionals and also to meet former students currently working in the media as well as those students who chose further study.
Those considering Cardiff can still contact the school to discuss clearing options. Contact Cerys Parker on 02920 874041 or email ParkerCB1@Cardiff.ac.uk
Last year’s students left Cardiff with a spring in their step with many expressing their satisfaction for the degree’s teaching and academic support. Dr Jewell commented, "At Cardiff we firmly put the student and their experience first. I’ve personally received some great feedback and comments, so we’re looking forward to this year’s NSS results reflecting the great place Cardiff is to study."
As all Universities prepare for the introduction of the new fees, Cardiff reputation in the field of Journalism remains a significant draw for new students.
Before leaving, Richard Thomas, Amber Grace Dite and Anjalee Joglekar took the time to describe their Cardiff experience and why its reputation helped influence their decision.
