New name for MA Journalism Studies

From September 2011 the Masters ‘Journalism Studies’ will be re-named ‘Journalism, Media and Communications’
This September the school’s longest established Masters Degree ‘Journalism Studies’ will be re-named ‘Journalism, Media and Communications’.
The new name will better reflect the degree’s academic orientation and the breadth of topics covered as part of its syllabus.
The Masters degree, which was established in 1980, has long provided students with an ideal opportunity to concentrate on the field of journalism studies. However, within the school, journalism is increasingly analysed in the broader context of the global media and communication environments in which it exists.
Course Director, Dr Karin Wahl-Jorgensen, explained why the change was necessary, “The degree’s content has evolved over time, and the new name does justice to what the programme is actually about. It covers broader debates in media and communications as well as the area of journalism studies.”
The change will take effect from September 2011 and all new applications for the MA Journalism Studies programme will be considered as applying for the MA Journalism, Media and Communications programme.
