Andy Stevenson will co-host the IPC Athletics World Championships for Channel 4
Cardiff Broadcast alumnus Andy Stevenson will co-host Channel 4’s coverage of the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships this January.
Taking place in Christchurch, New Zealand, between 22 and 30 of January, the Rt Hon. John Key, Prime Minister of New Zealand officially opened the championships at a ceremony held in Christchurch on Saturday (21 January).
Andy completed his Diploma in Broadcast Journalism in 2004 and is set to realise a milestone in his sports broadcasting career. Before leaving for New Zealand Andy said, “I've always wanted to be a TV sports presenter ever since I was a kid, when I avidly watched Des Lynam on Grandstand and then tried to copy him in my parents' living room.
"It's a privilege and tremendously exciting to be given the opportunity to co-present Channel 4's coverage… I have worked hard to get here and am determined to do well.”
Andy concluded, “The training I received at Cardiff was absolutely invaluable. I feel a lot of gratitude towards Colin Larcombe, the late, great Bob Atkins and my classmates of 2003/04 who have all gone onto great things."
The championships represent the last major gathering of international athletes before the London 2012 Paralympic Games which open in just over 18 months.
