Emma Barnett wins 'Digital Editorial Individual' at AOP awards - credit AOP
Emma Barnett, a former magazine student, beat a strong field of competitors to win ‘Digital Editorial Individual’ at the Association of Online Publishers (AOP) awards earlier this month.
The ceremony, which was held at the Roundhouse in London, saw several former magazine alumni scoop prestigious awards.
Emma won the award after having been short-listed with twelve other media journalists. She is currently The Telegraph's Digital Media Editor, where she writes news and features about digital media topics, including digital start ups and social networks.
AOP’s judges praised Emma’s contribution to making The Telegraph’s Technology channel a “must-read destination for breaking news.”
They said: “Emma has achieved high profile in the sector, delivering strong growth for the Telegraph Tech brand in both readership and commercial terms in a highly competitive market.”
During a break in her busy schedule, Emma visited Cardiff earlier in the year as a guest of the magazine diploma to talk about her experience working in the media. Magazine Director, Tim Holmes, said: “Emma was able to provide considerable inspiration to the students who, as always, greatly benefit from talking to alumni who work in fascinating and innovative positions in the media. I’ll look forward to introducing her next time as the award winning Media Editor - Emma Barnett.”
Other magazine alumni to scoop awards on the night were Jennifer Richardson, Emma Weinbren and Hannah Flynn at Chemist+Druggist, who won ‘Business Editorial Team’, and Josie Allchin who was part of the winning ‘Business Website’ team at Marketing Week.
Tim Holmes said: “Congratulations to all our AOP award winners who thoroughly deserve this recognition in the field of online publishing.
“The magazine MA/Diploma prepares students to write news, features and articles across platforms, so it’s great to see our students building such strong complementary online brands.”
Update:
Emma Barrett also won ‘Digital Writer of the Year’ at the Online Media Awards, sponsored by the Press Association on 23 June.
