Former director, Ray Boston dies aged 82

Ray Boston was director of the Centre for Journalism Studies between 1976 and 1985

Ray Boston who was director of the Centre for Journalism Studies (CJS) between 1976 and 1985 has died aged 82 of lung cancer.

He published articles in British Journalism Review, Journalism Studies Review and Everyman's Encyclopaedia, and was co-editor of The Newspaper Press in Britain: An Annotated Bibliography (1987) and author of The Essential Fleet Street: Its History and Influence (1990).

Ray became the second director of the CJS after Sir Tom Hopkinson, who had established the centre six years earlier in 1970.

The CJS, the first UK centre for postgraduate Journalism teaching is now part of Cardiff University’s School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies.
