Eddie Butler with Jane Bentley giving feedback to Magazine Students
Magazine students had an opportunity to turn the tables on BBC Sports presenter and commentator Eddie Butler recently when he visited the school as a guest of the Magazine Diploma in Journalism.
Eddie became the interviewee for a short while as students questioned the former Wales rugby captain about his professional life, his career and of course rugby.
“Practical interview sessions are an essential part of the training students receive”, said Magazine tutor Jane Bentley who arranged the visit. “Students benefit from their exposure to professional journalists. The feedback they receive as a result is extremely valuable.”
Once the questioning was over, Eddie advised the students to ensure they remained in control of the interview and not let the interviewee lead the conversation.
Magazine student Heather Steele said, "It was great hearing from a journalist who's seen both sides of the game, as a player and as a sports writer. He's had such an interesting and varied career, and gave us good advice too."
In September Eddie Butler will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with 14 Welsh Rugby Captains to raise funds for Velindre Cancer Hospital's lung cancer research campaign, the Stepping Stones Appeal. Please show your support by visiting his fundraising page at: www.justgiving.com/captainbutler
