Chris talks to Bond Girl Eva Green in L.A.
Third year undergraduate Chris Smith has reached the final six of Nokia’s search to find their first ever entertainment reporter.
Chris heard that he had made the final of the Nokia X6 All Areas Entertainment Reporter competition just days after submitting a 60 second video explaining why he would be the best choice for the job.
Since then Chris has already attended the launch party of the Nokia X6 phone in London where he interviewed Gavin & Stacey’s Mat Horne and singer Paloma Faith followed by actress Eva Green at the Oscars in LA a few days later.
The competition requires the finalists to blog six major entertainment events, posting their photos and videos to the Nokia X6 All Areas website, with the Snowbombing festival in Austria, The Spanish Grand Prix, interviewing Rihanna at the London leg of her European tour and finally the Canne Film festival yet to come in April and May.
The winner, who will win a one year contract, will be decided after the assignments have been completed.
Each finalist is being mentored by a publication or radio/tv station, Chris received the unexpected bonus of being mentored by his favourite magazine Empire, and was promptly given two extra articles to write by the movie magazine.
If that isn’t enough Chris now has to juggle the pressures of being an international entertainment reporter with his third year studies and dissertation.
Chris said, "The whole experience so far has been phenomenal... Aside from meeting a host of famous faces, I really enjoyed the challenge of researching for interviews in a pressurized space of time and trying to get the most out of the interviewees.
"Studying Journalism at Cardiff has provided me with the important tools needed to work in the highly rewarding and fast paced world of reporting, and I hope to do the JOMEC school proud!"
