Rhian Jones, winner of the The Phil Llewellin Student of the Year and the Sir William Lyons awards.
Rhian Jones, a Magazine Diploma student from 2008/09, has won two important motoring journalism awards.
The 'Phil Llewellin Student of the Year' and the 'Sir William Lyons' awards were presented to Rhian at the Guild of Motoring Writers annual Dinner and Awards at the RAC, Pall Mall, on 3 December.
During the course of the evening, the Guild and its award sponsors presented cash prizes, citations and trophies to the winners in front of other members and guests.
Due to the consistently high calibre of entries, some sponsors opted to include a Highly Commended citation in addition to the main prizes worth a total of more than £20,000.
While studying at Cardiff, Rhian took the optional Motoring Journalism module offered to Magazine Diploma students. The module is run jointly by lecturers from Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies and Cardiff Business School (specifically the Centre for Automotive Industry Research).
Rhian follows fellow alumnus Poppy Bullock who won the award in 2008 and Alex Grant, who won the first Phil Llewellin Award in 2006
Students who have taken this module over the past four years are now working on Top Gear, Practical Classics, Max Power, AutoSport and What Car.
