Climate Change and the Media, edited by Professor Justin Lewis and Tammy Boyce.
Climate Change and the Media is the first scholarly work to examine the relationship between climate change and media coverage around the world, from the USA, the UK and Europe to China, Australasia and the developing world.
Edited by Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies Professor Justin Lewis and The King’s Fund Fellow Tammy Boyce the pair bring together an international group of scholars to discuss one of the most important issues in human history, the threat of Climate Change.
Since public understanding of the issue relies heavily on media coverage, the role of the media is pivotal in the way it is tackled.
Chapters consider the impact of public relations and fictional programming, the relationship between public understanding and media coverage and the impact of the media industries themselves on climate change.
Professor Justin Lewis said: “Putting the book together has been an enjoyable but sobering experience. The climate science makes grim reading - and the more your read the worse it gets.”
Climate Change and the Media is the third book in a 16 part series called Global Crises and the Media and edited by the School’s Professor Simon Cottle, which examines the media’s role in the communication of global threats and crises and is published by Peter Lang.
