Since the competition - between the postgraduate Diploma courses - was inaugurated in 2001, Cardiff have won six times to City's one.
David English, deputy director of the Centre for Journalism Studies in JOMEC said "Cardiff and City are the two oldest university journalism courses in the UK and have been described as the Oxbridge of journalism courses by many in the media.

"In 2002 we thought it would be a good idea to set up the challenge trophy as a means of establishing greater links between postgraduates at both institutions. It seems to have worked very well since then.
"We are, of course, delighted to have won again and would like to thank Bloomberg for their sponsorship, which has given the match a much more professional profile this year."
