Students from the postgraduate diploma in Magazine Journalism recently received a top industry accolade for their course magazine, Tracks.
It beat a scorching shortlist of contenders from other universities around the UK to win the PTC New Student Magazine of the Year 2008.
Producedand designed by a team of 15 students, Tracks is 'back-pack' sized and aimed at people who love travel.
Tracks scooped New Student Magazine of the Year Award while IndieNational was shortlisted.
Members of the editorial team (pictured) received the award in October at a special event in London.
The judges praised its high production and design values, and were particularly impressed with its quality editorial content that they felt connected very closely with its readers thanks to a 'clubby' feel.
On winning the award Tracks editor Catherine Millman said, "For a moment I was worried that our entry wasn't glamorous or shocking enough, but we genuinely believe in the spirit of the magazine and I think that shined out in the end."
Part of the prize included getting Tracks professionally printed and distributed to every major UK magazine publisher. "The best part was thumbing through a printed copy, it's just how I imagined it," enthused Catherine.
The printed magazine isn't the end of the story, as the students also produced an accompanying website for Tracks. And the good news doesn't end there either, as another course magazine IndieNational, also made the shortlist for the awards.
