Friday, April 11, 2008
Cardiff University’s Open Day took place on Wednesday 23rd April 2008, giving prospective students the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of life at one of Britain’s leading universities.
The Cardiff School of Journalism, Media & Cultural Studies (JOMEC) has an international reputation as a centre for teaching and research. Its expertise ranges from the study of television, print journalism, cinema and popular culture.
Open Day activities took place within the Birt Acres Cinema in Bute Building. The session began with 'Introduction to Journalism, Film and Media: Why should we study the media?' and continued with sessions about 'Cultural Studies', and 'Newspapers, television and war'.
John Jewell, Open Day co-ordinator explained, "We endeavour to provide a comprehensive experience to ensure students leave informed and exited about their future with us here at Cardiff.”
The Journalism, Film and Media degree is highly academic in nature and is emphatically not a production-training programme.
