Cardiff University has been ranked first in Wales by The Independent in its recent Complete University Guide.

Cardiff hit top spot over Aberystwyth and Swansea in second and third position by placing eight and ten positions higher in the national rankings.

The School also enjoyed considerable success by finishing third in the UK for Communication & Media Studies and in doing so finished well above other leading Russell Group Universities such as Warwick, Leeds and Birmingham.

The UK survey considered nine different criteria when compiling the final results. These were Student Satisfaction, Research Assessment, Entry Requirements, Student Staff Ratio, Spending on Academic services, Facilities Spending, Good Honours, Graduate Prospects and Number of Students completing their course.

Positively for Cardiff extra weighting was applied to the Student Satisfaction and Research Assessment criteria, areas where Cardiff and the School have traditionally scored highly.

Head of School, Professor Justin Lewis said: “This survey again highlights the significant role the Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies plays within UK Media Studies. Our excellent staff and facilities ensure our students receive a high quality of education and training which year on year is proved by the number of students that move directly into employment with major UK organisations.”

To further support the student experience a five month overhaul of the School website has recently been completed. Web Content Officer James Clemas commented: “The Website is an extremely important vehicle for us to communicate with current and potential students. The new design targets areas of our web presence including content delivery, accuracy and accessibility to ensure the end user experience delivers on all levels.”
