New Head of School

It’s a hive of activity in the School this week, as JOMEC welcomes new students on all its courses. This includes new undergraduates on the Journalism Film and Media course, students on the Postgraduate Journalism Diplomas, MA students and new Ph.Ds. The School also welcomes back its second and third year undergraduates, who will be completing enrolment this week.
As of the 1st of September 2007 Professor Justin Lewis became the acting Head of School.
The outgoing Head of School Terry Threadgold a Professor of Communication and Cultural Studies had been Head since 2003. She will now join the University’s senior management team as Pro Vice-Chancellor for Staff.
The School also welcomes Jane Bentley to the staff. Jane has joined the School to teach Magazine Journalism. The School will also shortly be appointing a new lecturer in Broadcast Journalism.
Dr Howard Barrell leads a PhD class
Several internal changes have occurred over the summer. Ros Bew becomes the new Equal Opportunities Officer while Kerry Moore joins the Undergraduate Studies Admissions Team.
On the MA Programmes, Dr Cynthia Carter and Dr Howard Barrell bcome Course co-ordinators for the Journalism Studies and Political Communications courses respectively.
The administration team has also undergone changes. Head of School Secretary Julie Stephens has left for the School of Architecture, the School wishes her all the best.
Equally a warm welcome to Carol Davies who will be supporting the diploma courses in the front office. The Schools website will undergo developments this year in conjunction with the Uniweb project. To this end James Clemas has joined as Web Content Officer.
