MeCCSA January 2008 Conference details announced

This January the Cardiff School of Journalism, Media, and Cultural Studies hosts MeCCSA. Wednesday to Friday the 9th, 10th and 11th of January 2008.

The conference will feature a rich and varied programme, with a wide range of speakers from five continents as well as some of the best known figures in media and cultural studies in the UK.

Following the opening night wine reception and quiz, Thursday evening will see a visit to two of Wales’s new iconic buildings in Cardiff Bay for a reception at the new Welsh Assembly building (the Senedd) and dinner at Brazz in the Wales Millennium Centre.

Plenary speakers are Toby Miller (University of California, Riverside), George Monbiot (Guardian columnist and environmental activist), Greg Philo (Glasgow University) and Annabelle Sreberny (SOAS). Other speakers taking part include Steven Barnett, Martin Barker, Georgina Born, Nick Couldry, Aeron Davis, Natalie Fenton, Ian Hargreaves (OFCOM), Sylvia Harvey, Mark Jancovich, Sonia Livingstone, Julian Petley, Richard Tait (BBC Trust), Keith Tester, Sue Thornham, Valerie Walkerdine, as well as staff from the Cardiff School.

The poster section taking place at Aberdare hall will have greater prominence this year with opportunities to see the work displayed throughout the conference.

Aside from the 37 sessions taking place over the 3 days of the conference, “Help Yourself” screenings and “Digital Storytelling Looped Screenings” will be made available throughout. In addition, screenings will be shown in the 180 seat capacity Birt Acres theatre. Conference Timetable.

The conference closes at 12:30 on Friday with a plenary in the Birt Acres Theatre followed by a lunch and network meetings hosted in the Glamorgan Building. Conference Details
