From 2001 to 2008, Gary Merrill was a key member of the teaching staff on the international MA programme. He taught two core modules on MA in International Journalism and one on MA in Journalism Studies. He also developed and taught four other modules, including Media and Globalisation; Economics and Finance; and Alternative Voices.
In 2005, Gary was elected to the School Board and in 2006 he was appointed Deputy Course Co-ordinator for MA in International Journalism.
Prior to joining the School, Gary spent 12 years as a freelance journalist, PR practitioner, copywriter and web designer. His journalism clients included the Daily Telegraph, The Independent and a variety of business publications. As a PR consultant, Gary specialised in the IT industry and worked with Sun Microsystems, ARM Holdings, NTL and many other companies.
In February 2008, Gary began a twelve month career break. From May 2008, he will be spending six months in Taiwan, where he will be exploring and developing links between the School and Taiwanese universities. He will also be doing some research in conjunction with a Taiwanese university.
