New University email for students

3 September 2013

The University email system for students and taught postgraduates is being upgraded to Office 365.

Microsoft's cloud-based Office 365 email system will bring a number of benefits for students, including up to 25GB of mailbox storage, easy and flexible access from mobile devices, and the ability to connect other email accounts.

Eileen Brandreth, Director of University IT explains: "I think that the flexibility of Office 365 will be of particular benefit to the University community, as it enables an easy connection to email using mobile devices. The generous mailbox allowance also adds to this flexibility, as each student will have up to 25GB of storage available to them for emails and calendar appointments."

After the summer, new and returning students will continue to access their University email through Cardiff Portal, and this will automatically connect them to their new Office 365 mailboxes.

IT support staff across the University are being briefed and trained in Office 365 to provide support and advice for new and returning students. A range of promotion and support activities are also planned for during the enrolment period.

Staff members and research postgraduates will be upgraded to Office 365 early in 2014.

Visit the Office 365 'busy bees' support team at enrolment for help with accessing your email – they'll be wearing yellow 'bee' t-shirts. You can also get help with accessing your email in the libraries.
