Releasing a New Big Cat into the Wild...

25 October 2007

MAC OS X Box

...Information Services is making the OS X Leopard update available to Mac users for FREE!

Information Services have recently received extra funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) to improve support for users of Apple Mac computers at Cardiff University.

As a direct response to frequent requests from Mac users to provide central support for updating the Mac OS X operating system INSRV have chosen to use some of the additional funds to participate in the Apple Maintenance Programme (AMP) for Mac OS X.

This programme will provide free OS X client updates for up to 600 university owned Macs. It includes the 10.5 "Leopard" major version update to be released by Apple at the end of October 2007. This update would normally cost users £60 per Mac.

As well as being a substantial new benefit to Mac users, this programme will help to keep the University's increasing number of Apple Mac systems up-to-date and secure. It will also permit Information Services to focus their efforts on developing and supporting services, including those to be a part of the Modern IT Working Environment (MWE), that can be fully exploited by capabilities in the most recent versions of Mac OS X.

The programme will be launched on Monday 29th October 2007 and will run until March 2010.
