During the recent refurbishment of Cardiff University's Guest building, the Library Service had a lot of spare furniture that was no longer required.
Having advertised this on Xchange, the procurement portal for Higher Education, the Refurbishment Project Team still had an amount of furniture to dispose of. The team decided to offer the remaining furniture to local schools in Cardiff to see if they could reuse the items.

Cantonian High School in Cardiff were pleased to receive IT desks and chairs that were too large for the new Guest Extension building, as well as some other desks that were no longer required. Cantonian High School's 800 pupils now have seating for their hall and a cutting out table for their sewing room, as well as new sofas in their reception area which had been in the corridor of the Guest building.
Janet Peters, Director of University Libraries, said: "This is a great demonstration of our staff thinking beyond the usual procedures to ensure that our unwanted furniture can really benefit a school in our local community. I'm delighted that items we're no longer able to use will go to help the staff and students of Cantonian High School in Cardiff."
