Calendar of State Papers (Spain) (1485-1558)
This series comprises abstracts and translations of letters, despatches, treaties and State Papers relating to negotiations between England and Spain during the Tudor period (1485-1558). This includes not just material generated by the English court and its representatives in Spain but also Spanish documents about England. The original documents were held at a number of archives but the most important are those preserved at the General Archive in Simancas, which form a major part of this series. The records throw a broad light on the English sovereign’s relationship with continental governments and are particularly interesting for the years of Mary’s reign and her marriage to Philip of Spain. (20 volumes, published 1862-1910).
