Astronomical Society of Wales (20th C.)


Small book and pamphlet collection from the Society, associated with Arthur Mee and others. Mee was also secretary of the Cardiff Astrological Society. Books are included on eclipses, meteors, telescopes, the moon, etc. A number of the volumes are American publications.

Mee was born in Aberdeen, worked in Cardiff on the Western Mail, and was a member of the French and British astronomical societies. He was one of the most prominent figures in amateur astronomy in Wales in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Unusually for an astronomer, Mee developed an interest in astrology in later life and was a founding member and secretary of the Cardiff Astrological Society.
