New ‘international organizations’ collections Library to be opened in the new year: more details to follow soon.

October 11th 2005: Special Collections Research Room, ASSL, 5.30p.m.
Book Launch and personal archives donation, for Prof. Donald Thomas’ new book, Villains Paradise.
Opening Introduction by Prof. David Skilton, Research Professor in English, ENCAP.

November/December: ASSL Meeting room.
Launch of a new bibliographic database of 20th Welsh Local Acts: more details to follow soon.

SCOLAR Research Seminar Series: Research Room, SCOLAR, ASSL.
February 2006 - SCOLAR sources for 'historical' out-of-copyright prints, pictures, images and illustrations, on all subjects, for teaching, research and publication.
March 2006 - SCOLAR sources for 19th - 20th Century working class, labour, trade union and related study.
April/May 2006 - SCOLAR sources for the history of medicine; rare books and archives.

  • There will be speakers from academic Schools and INSRV.
  • The seminars are open to undergraduates, postgraduates, academics, INSRV and related Cardiff University staff.
  • Each seminar will be accompanied by a SCOLAR exhibition of original documents relating to the topic.

February 2006;
Launch of the SCOLAR web site browse listing of 600 newspaper historical titles held in Cardiff, together with a browse list of maps and microfilm research collections.

March 22nd;
Visit by the CILIP 'History of Libraries' Committee to the University Library.

Official start to the Wellcome project on the History of Human and Medical Genetics.

Documents from Prof. Donald Thomas’ personal research archives, related to his work on the ‘Underworld’ series of books.

November/ December 2005, 9 (SCRR), ASSL.
Recent Special Collections donations exhibition: including 18th century French Revolution pamphlets, 19th century Cardiff photographic albums of early student classes, and 20th century WWII booklets.

'Out-of-copyright' images on all subjects held in SCOLAR (for teaching, research and publication purposes).
