Mrs Helen Price Saunders - MA (Oxon), BA (Hons), Dip.Lib., MCLIP
I originally graduated in English language and literature at the University of Oxford (1982), and studied librarianship as a postgraduate at the College of Librarianship Wales, Aberystwyth (1984). I also have a degree in Welsh from the University of Wales (Aberystwyth) (2005), which included a higher certificate in Breton (2000) and a certificate in Irish (2003), and I hold a diploma in theology from the University of London (1991). I became a Licentiate of the Library Association in 1985 and a fully chartered member (ALA) (1989), and transferred to its successor CILIP as a full member (MCLIP) in 2002.
My first library post was as a SCONUL trainee under the auspices of the National Library of Wales (1983-1984), based chiefly at St. Deiniol's Library, Hawarden. My first professional post was at the British Library of Political and Economic Science (the library of the London School of Economics), followed by six years as a reference librarian with Westminster City Council and two years as Librarian/Information Officer at the English-Speaking Union. I came to Cardiff in 1994 as Senior Branch Librarian for the then South Glamorgan County Council, a part-time post which I continued to hold until 2002 under its successor, Cardiff County Council, and I have also worked simultaneously for the university as a cataloguer since 1995, originally as part of a project to complete the automation of the catalogue of the Salisbury Library (which includes the collection of the School of WELSH). I became Subject Librarian for Welsh in 2007.
