Registering your device - information for students
To connect to Cardiff University's wireless service, students will first need to register their laptop or wireless device with Information Services.
Registering your device from your room in University Residences
If you live in University Residences, you can register your laptop and additional devices from your room.
To register your laptop
If you are a laptop user and are using RESLAN (the Residences' Local Area Network), your laptop will automatically be registered with the University's wireless network. Some additional configuration may be necessary before full access is granted – instructions will be made available.
To register mobile devices
Look for the 'eduroam-setup' option in your list of available wireless networks. 'eduroam-setup' provides a simple and quick way to both register and configure your device for the eduroam wireless network.
You should only need to register and configure your device using 'eduroam-setup' once. You will then be able to connect to eduroam automatically across the University. However, please note that if you change your password, you will need to re-configure your device using this process.
Registering your device from elsewhere on campus
Laptops can be registered and set up automatically online.
Mobile devices can also be registered from elsewhere on campus. Connect to the 'CU-Guest WiFi' network on your mobile device and follow the on screen instructions.
You can also register your device at one of the following locations:
The IT Clinic in the Students' Union (open 1-3pm, Mondays - Fridays during semester time)
Once registered, you will be able to connect your device to the eduroam wireless network.
Please note that it is a requirement that any laptop connecting to the Cardiff University network has Cardiff University-approved anti-virus software, security updates installed and set to automatically receive updates. Please see the Computer Security and Virus Protection web pages for further information.
