Mrs Sue Lay
My career began with a multi-disciplinary engineering placement "Year in Industry", based at the HTV television studios in Culverhouse Cross, Cardiff.
Having completed the first year of my degree in Astrophysics at Cardiff I transferred to Swansea University, graduating in 1993 with an honours degree in Physics with Medical Physics.
I went on to train as a Clinical Scientist at the University Hospital of Wales, completing the "Diploma of the IPEM" (Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine) and an MSc in "Medical Radiation Physics". My specialty in Clinical Engineering at Rookwood Hospital led me towards the field of Software development, and the start of my passion for Apple Mac computers.
In 1996 I left the NHS to work in Software Engineering. A small Medical Electronics company, developing their IT systems; Analyst Programmer with BT, developing eCommerce systems; IT Consultant and Testing Manager at Tertio Telecomms, Bath, developing mobile phone network provisioning systems.
I started working for Cardiff University in 2002 as an applications specialist with main specialty in Mac OS X. During 2003-2005 I was seconded to BIS (Business Information Systems) as Project Manager on the merger of key IT systems.
In 2004 I obtained Chartered Engineer status, and Membership of the IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology).
